When ordering the digital vignette (=electronic (e)vignette), you must enter the details of the vehicle type, the desired validity period and your licence plate number.  

Depending on the information you enter, the digital vignette is valid either immediately after purchase or from the date you select in the future. The digital vignette is not delivered by post. Instead, your vehicle will be registered in the database of the toll operator ASFINAG for the corresponding vehicle class under the licence plate number you specified. 

Checks to verify vignette registration are carried out at motorway bridges using automatic cameras and by the service and inspection service of the Austrian toll operator ASFINAG. These checks are carried out on a random basis using the vehicle licence plates recorded in order to verify the registration of a vignette for the respective vehicle.
